For Mac

record-me for Mac

Your Voice Memos, your calls and your meetings, as text you can find again. On the Mac you already work on.

macOS 13 or later; recording calls needs macOS 14.4 or later. Apple Silicon and Intel.

What it does

  • Your Voice Memos

Everything you record in Voice Memos, on the iPhone or the Mac, arrives on the Mac through iCloud. record-me sends each new recording to Deep Thought Cloud and gets the transcript back.

  • Record a call or a meeting

One button records what the Mac plays and what your microphone hears: Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, a webinar, anything. No bot joins the call.

  • Text in your own folder

Every transcript is written as a text file into a folder you choose (iCloud Drive by default), next to its audio. Read it anywhere, keep it as long as you like.

  • It tells you

A notification when a recording is sent, and when its transcript is ready. Click it to open the text.

  • Your folder, from the menu bar

If you keep your notes as files (with Obsidian, for example), the menu opens them: today's files, the inbox, the outbox with what is ready to send, handoffs, recent files, and a search across the folder with Command-Shift-V.

Record a call or a meeting

You are on a call or in a meeting on your Mac. Press Record. When you stop, the recording goes to Deep Thought Cloud and comes back as a transcript with the speakers separated: in Deep Thought, searchable with everything else, and as a file in your folder.

  1. Click record-me in the menu bar and choose Record…. A small window opens: pick what to record (all audio, or one app such as Teams or Zoom), turn your microphone on or off, and press Record. Or press Control-Option-Command-R anywhere to start at once.
  2. The window stays on top of the call with the time and a level meter for you and for the others. Pause, change the source or turn the microphone off without stopping.
  3. Stop & send. Your voice and the others are kept on separate channels, which helps Deep Thought tell the speakers apart. The transcript arrives a few minutes later.
  • Headphones give the cleanest result. On the Mac's speakers, record-me removes the echo of the others from your microphone (on automatically when the sound comes out of speakers).
  • Recording people is your responsibility: a red mark in the menu bar shows for the whole recording, and record-me reminds you to tell the others.
  • If the Mac sleeps or the app quits during a recording, what was recorded is kept and offered for sending at the next start.

Get it

Unzip it, move record-me to Applications and open it. It is signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens like any other app. Its icon appears in the menu bar; there is no Dock icon.

Connect it to your Deep Thought account

  1. Sign in at app.deep-thought.cloud in your usual browser on the Mac (Sign in with Apple, or create an account there). It is the same account as record-me on your phone.
  2. In record-me: Settings… → Captures → Connect to Deep Thought….
  3. Your browser shows a code. Check that it matches the code in record-me, and approve.
  4. Back in record-me, turn on Voice Memos and Upload to Deep Thought, and click Save.

record-me never asks for your password. It keeps a token for this Mac, which you can revoke in the Deep Thought web app.

Permissions macOS asks for

  • Full Disk Access — to read the Voice Memos folder. record-me says when it is missing and opens the right System Settings pane; restart record-me after granting it.
  • Microphone and System Audio Recording Only — when you first press Record.
  • Notifications — to tell you when a transcript is ready.

record-me starts with your Mac and updates itself: it checks for a new version every day and asks before installing. Check for Updates… in the menu checks now.

Processing on your own machine

record-me can run a command of your choice each time a transcript arrives (Settings → Captures). For example, Claude Code with core-skills can file each transcript into the right project and pull out tasks, on your Mac, the moment it lands.

How the parts fit together

On an older Mac

On macOS 11 or 12, record-me-capture does the Voice Memos part without the menu: it runs in Terminal, starts at login, uploads each new recording and writes the transcript into your folder. Recording calls is in the app only. The instructions are in the zip.

Download record-me-capture (zip, Intel and Apple Silicon)

What it does not do

  • It does not transcribe on your Mac. The recording goes to Deep Thought Cloud, and the transcript comes back.
  • It does not run on Windows, Linux or the web.
